The Catching-up Regions initiative has helped projects in three counties

In total, 105 projects in three counties (Košick, Prešov and Banská Bystrica) for a total of EUR 120 million have received financial support from European Union funds under the Catching-up Regions (CuRI) initiative over the last four years. She informed Emma Toledano Laredo, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, at a press conference in High Tatras where the final conference for the fourth edition of the initiative was held.

Three self-governing regions presented their achievements in projects that help them to blur regional disparities on Tuesday (28.11.) in the High Tatra. The Prešov Self-Governing Region (PSK), the Banská Bystrický Self-Governing Region (BBSK) and Košice Self-Governing Region (KSK) jointly addressed the topics of education, marginalised Roma communities and, for example, the reduction of regional disparities.

The President of the Digital Coalition, Mário Lelovský, also addressed this closing conference. Discussed jointly with Andrea Gajdošová (KSK), Ján Furman (PSK), Zuzana Laffers ( BBSK), Karo Jakubík, Director -General of the Secondary Schools and Lifelong Learning Section, Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Fáberová, during a workshop on the reform of secondary education in the Slovak regions of CuRI; Head of the Programming, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Operational Programmes Management and Methodology Department, Support Programmes Section, Ministry of the Economy, Evou Wenigová, Programme Manager, DG REGIO, European Commission, Jana Lubyová, representative, Central Industrial School J. MURGAŠA, Banská Bystrica, Branislav Hadár, Director, State Institute for Vocational Training, and Michal Poliaka, DSA Foreign Relations Manager (Deutsch – Slowakische Akademien).

Catching-up Regions is an initiative to help regions support projects that will help them grow and remove obstacles to better use of European funds and increase the added value of investment. In Slovakia, this initiative is implemented through the cooperation of the European Commission, the World Bank, the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation of the Slovak Republic and self-governing regions. The initiative piloted the Prešov Self-Governing Region in 2018, the Banská Bystrica Self-governing Region in 2019 and the Košice Self-Governing Region also joined the CuRI in 2020.
