Pact for Skills: One Year On

The Pact for Skills was set up one year ago to identify what skills will be needed in different sectors of the economy to guarantee that Europe can flourish in a more green and digital society.

The Pact for Skills was set up one year ago, aiming to bring together employers, workers, public employment services, regional authorities, and more, to identify what skills will be needed in different sectors of the economy to guarantee that Europe can flourish in a more green and digital society.

Having the necessary skills is essential for individuals’ success in a fast-changing labour market. The recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the rhythm of change in how we live as well as how we progress in work.

Celebrating its first birthday, the Pact and its strong alliances are creating more opportunities for people of working-age across Europe, to learn new skills and improve their prospects in the labour market and in work.

To mark the anniversary, Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, Commissioners Nicolas Schmit and Thierry Breton said: “One year on, the Pact for Skills is delivering: 450 organisations have pledged to provide the right skills for 1.5 million people. This is a good start and the result of Pact for Skills members, businesses and other partners working together to enhance skills in Europe. Our ambition does not end here. The Commission is committed to further strengthen the Pact and calls on more members to join: having the right skills is essential for people to thrive, for our economy to grow, and for a successful recovery.”

More than 450 organisations from all Member States have signed up and the community continues to grow.
